Home Support

It is your home, it is where you feel most comfortable. Physical limitations should not prevent you from remaining in your home and pursuing a better quality of life. Ponoka FCSS wants to provide you with the home support services you need to remain comfortably in your home longer.

We can provide assistance with routine light house cleaning tasks. Support is available for vacuuming, washing floors, cleaning the bathroom and bedroom, doing laundry, ironing, dusting and assisting with grocery shopping and meal preparation.

Some chores such as (but not limited to) washing walls and windows, cleaning light fixtures, cleaning unused areas of the home, any outside work or doing any work that requires a ladder are not permitted under the home support program.

Accessing Home Support

If are experiencing physical limitations and would like to access our home support services to make staying at home easier, you will first need to call Ponoka FCSS at 403-783-4462 and speak to the Home Services Coordinator. Together, we will determine your level of need and ability to pay. If it is determined that you are eligible for home support, an intake meeting will be scheduled. You then will be asked to sign a contract agreeing to the hourly rate that you will be charged for the home care services.

Home support services come with a subsidized fee on a sliding scale. Some coverage may be provided by Alberta Seniors Benefit Special Needs Assistance. Feel free to ask Ponoka FCSS about the home support fees and possible financial support.

Home Support FAQs

Home Support workers will come into your home and may spend up to 3 hours in your home providing assistance on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Yes, everyone who receives home support through Ponoka FCSS pays a pre-determined cost based on an hourly rate. The amount billed will vary depending on where you live and your annual income. You will be billed monthly. Ponoka FCSS subsidizes the cost of home support to make it affordable for those living with limited income but still need assistance keeping up their homes.

Home support clients are required to provide adequate cleaning supplies. You must provide 24 hours notice if you wish to cancel your next scheduled visit. Failure to notify the Ponoka FCSS office in sufficient time may result in your being billed for the scheduled time.

All home support workers have completed a current criminal check and a vulnerable sector check. They are required to sign an oath of confidentiality, obtain adequate insurance, and comply with FCSS policies and procedures. They have current First Aid and CPR certificates and attend ongoing training. Ponoka FCSS employees are not allowed to accept gifts or tips.

Once the intake meeting is completed, we assign a Home Support Worker as their schedules permit. Sometimes, we may not have a worker who will fit your schedule, or we are short of staff. We will ensure that clients with a greater need are assisted first. However, we do our best to ensure that all eligible clients receive our home support services as soon as possible.
