Connect Through the Friendly Visitor Program

We all experience loneliness or isolation. Many of us have someone to help us through those times, but for those who don’t, we are here for you.

Loneliness is not limited to the elderly. There can be different reasons why we need help finding a friend: our family members may be far away, friendship circles may have gotten smaller, or illness or decreased mobility may make it hard to maintain contact. The list could go on, and in our mobile world, it is becoming increasingly easy to be isolated. This program is available to any person in need of a Friendly Visitor. Anyone can feel isolated, and anyone can access our Friendly Visitor program.

Through the Friendly Visitor program, we can provide you with a friend who will visit and help you through the lonely times. We visit because we care about the community and we care about you.

Accessing the Friendly Visitor Program

When you apply to the Friendly Visitor program, you will meet with our Program Coordinator and be matched with a volunteer. We want to ensure that you and your volunteer are compatible and that you will enjoy visiting each other. However, upon visiting, if you are not comfortable for any reason, you can contact the Program Coordinator to discuss concerns and find a different match.

Though everyone socializes differently, we suggest that you visit at least once a week for about an hour. Setting aside a mutually agreeable day of the week is helpful. It takes time to build a friendship.

The program coordinator will also provide ongoing support. Feel free to call 403-783-4462 at any time.
