Ponoka Family & Community Support Services

Tools 4 Schools

What is Tools 4 Schools?

Tools for School is designed to help ensure that students receive the educational supplies they need to achieve classroom success.
This program is a model of innovative partnerships and cooperation, bringing together community agencies, educational institutions, corporate supporters, the general public and the media for the purpose of a common goal – to donate school supplies to children in need. This program is run in communities all across Alberta, however donations made in Ponoka will be used locally.

How Does it Work?

Donation of school supplies or money are accepted at numerous local businesses. Coin jars for cash donations and boxes for purchased items labeled with the Ponoka FCSS Tools for Schools logo are placed throughout the town. People are invited to drop in what they feel is reasonable; any amount makes a difference!

Major donors for this program are much appreciated. Over the years FCSS has received support from corporate, individual, and anonymous donors.

What Happens to the Donations?

Ponoka FCSS obtains supply lists for all local schools, collects the donations from the local businesses and then organizes the donations to match the supply lists. Funds gathered go towards purchasing supplies to supplement items donated. All donations are given out according to the supplies lists given by teachers. All donations are used locally.

How do Students in Need Access the Donated Supplies?

There are two ways that student can obtain the supplies they need.

  1. Students can come by the office to “shop” for school.
  2. Students can ask their teachers. Currently, Ponoka County includes 12 schools under the Wolf Creek Public School division and 4 privately run schools. All schools are aware of the program and will let Ponoka FCSS know if they have students in need. We send the donations to the schools and the teachers provide the supplies to the students in need.
