What is Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-based community program designed to provide a hot nutritious meal to individuals.

When is Meals on Wheels available?

The service is available for noon-hour meals Monday through Friday except on holidays.  Twenty-four hours of notice is needed if a meal needs to be cancelled. 

Who can Receive Meals on Wheels?

Any resident of the Town of Ponoka who wishes to subscribe to the service can receive Meals on Wheels.  The service is only available within the town limits.

For those individuals living outside of the town limits there is an option available to them. Heart to Home Meals is a company that delivers frozen meals directly to your home and into your freezer on a bi-weekly basis. A catalogue of meal choices (over 200) which includes special diets is available at the Ponoka FCSS office. Meals are available in 3 different sizes to suit your appetite. Pricing is very reasonable and delivery is free. A minimum $50 order is required. The catalogue is also available online at HeartToHomeMeals.ca.

What about the Meals?

Currently (August 2014) the meals are prepared locally by the Old Iron Horse Restaurant and cost $9.00 per meal. Although food allergies and diabetic requirements can be accommodated, the program does not cater to likes and dislikes. A weekly menu with two daily meal choices is available.

When are the Meals Delivered?

Meals are delivered to the client’s home by volunteers between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

How do I Pay For My Meals?

Meals are billed on a monthly basis. Payment is due upon receipt. The fee is payable to Ponoka FCSS.

What do I do if I want to start getting Meals on Wheels?

If you or a family member are interested in obtaining this service please call the office at 403-783-4462 and speak to the Program Coordinator.

Alternatively, you can complete the form listed below and drop it off at the Ponoka FCSS office (5006-52 Avenue) at your convenience during office hours (8:30 am - 12:00 noon; 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm) or in the drop-box after office hours.
