What are the Duties of a Home Support Worker?

Home Support Workers provide assistance with routine household activities, including light house-keeping, laundry, light meal preparation and grocery shopping assistance.

What skills are needed to be a Home Support Worker?

Home support workers need to be able to handle a variety of situations that require discretion, good judgement and sensitivity with a diverse group of clients. The ability to work independently is essential. A positive attitude with a commitment to providing quality service is required. The Support Worker must be physically able to perform the required tasks and have the ability to travel throughout the community.

Is a Criminal Record Check Required?

All employees of Ponoka FCSS are required to provide a criminal record check.

Is a vehicle and valid driver’s license required?

As the Home Support Worker provides services in the homes of their clients, a vehicle and valid driver’s license is required.  Additionally, two million in third party liability insurance is required.

What are the hours?

Although there is some flexibility, home support workers typically work from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

What does the average day look like?

Each home support worker has a unique work schedule with clients located in both the town and county of Ponoka. Duties will vary with the need of each client.

What supports are available?

Administrative support staff are available to home support workers during regular office hours.  If the need arises, administrative support staff can be reached after-hours.
